TELESCOPES

  • An optical device used to make far away objects look nearer
  • Many different types of telescopes.
  • Refracting telescope, Newton reflecting telescope, Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.
  • These are the most popular among amuture astronomers.
  • Using telescopes scientists have discovered thousands stars and planets.

TELESCOPES

  • Deep space telescopes are used in the atmosphere to look into deep space
  • and scan the sky looking for new stars and planets.
  • Telescopes use mirrors and lens to focus light and produce an image that is visible to you.

SPECTROSCOPES

  • Helps us find out what stars are made of.
  • We interpret data by looking at the light signals
  • Astronomical spectroscopy, electron spectroscopy, roman spectroscopy
  • In 1800, William Herschel tested to see which color emitted the
  • hottest temperature, it was the red end.

SUNS

  • Sun had 3 layers of atmosphere: photosphere, chromospheres, and corona
  • It has a visible layer that is composed of penumbral filaments
  • It orbits around the center of the Milky Way
  • Approximate one million Earths could fit into the sun
  • Stars are born into main sequence stars

COMETS

  • Comets are composed of ice and dust on the outside.
  • They are icy because they go so far from the sun.
  • Comets' atmospheres are made up of various gases.
  • Comets move in ellipses (oval paths) around the sun.
  • When they swing in toward the sun, they accelerate.

COMETS (2)

  • When they swing away from the sun, they decelerate.
  • Swinging in towards the sun makes the tail of a comet.
  • Comets are unique by their chemical makeup and the stars they orbit.
  • Comets are categorized by how long it takes them to orbit around the sun.
  • Comets are very fascinating because they don't last as long as planets.

RELATIONS

  • Everything relates because :
  • You use spectroscopes to view stars
  • Comets revolve around stars
  • Telescopes are used to view comets
  • Spectroscopes and telescopes are both technology used to view space and the universe
