There is an economical way to attend SXSW.
I volunteered for a portion of the event so that I could get a Platinum badge that got me into most events for free.
Fortunately, I was scheduled during the music portion so that I was free during the interactive - which was most important to me.
I also stayed via AirBNB which was a much less expensive way to board.
