FIRE

* The Bow drill
this method only involves one arm at a time with an easier motion and your hands do not become blistered due to the friction involved.
Steps: spindle (sharp point on one end).
Top handle that has another bowl carved out of and it will be held in your left hand for stability.
Bow with shoe string wrapped around once on spindle (used to do back and forth motion).
Elbow wrapped around left knee and strike it like a violin (with right hand).…

FIRE

*Flint & steel
Build a tender nest using dry plant material
Steps: take a flint rock (a rock that emits sparks) and hold it between thumb and forefinger.
Allow 2 or 3 inches of flint to extend past your gasp.
Char cloth between your thumb and flint. If you don't have any char cloth on hands then you can also use a light weight tree fungus.
So you take the back of the steel striker or knife blade and strike it against it until its lit.

WATER

Water is the most important material in a survival situation. Especially if its being involved in a lost desert.

WATER

Canyons and valleys that stay shaded during the hot afternoon are more likely to be retained in these cooler canyons by snow or rainfall, sometimes for months after a major rainstorm.

WATER

Always look for birds and insects ! Because you can always find water holes that way. Those critters are there for a reason.

Situational awareness will help you notice that sort of thing

WATER

Look near dense vegetation pockets, anywhere the surface soil feels damp or at least more clay-like than sandy.

Once you reached an area that seems promising then start digging, wait until a cool part of the day to start it. Then look for moisture about a foot under the surface.
