SHOES

  • The ceremony of the Exchange of Shoes to telling us about the bleeding sores he got on his feet from his poorly-fitting ones. Levi hopes to get a pair of real leather shoes once he starts working in the Laboratory and he starts recounts how the prisoners rushed to find appropriate footwear right before the evacuation of the camp

THEME

THEMES 1

  • Theme 1: freedom and confinement
  • The prisoners in concentration camps are confined physically, but their lack of freedom is completely consuming their well being
  • Arbeit Macht Frei which is German means ""work makes (you )free"" was on sign over every door way
  • Seeing that sign didn't help the people because they weren't free and they thought that they would never be able to be free .

THEME 2

  • Race - it played apart in this story as well
  • Jews are the primary victims of Nazi persecution and are targeted for extermination because of the simple fact that they are Jews.
