Excellent communication

Consistent service delivery
Our Superdrug pharmacists understand the importance of good communication with service providers. As part of our community pharmacy service you can expect excellent communication around:

- Missed doses
- Patterns of non-compliance
- Early information about missing prescriptions or prescription discrepancies
- Hospital admissions
- Clients in custody
- Evidence of health or emotional issues
- Any other occasions where the pharmacist is concerned about the user's wellbeing

Patients can also speak confidentially to our pharmacists in a private consultation room about any issues concerning their health or wellbeing.

Highly skilled pharmacy staff

Pharmacy Technician of the Year 2015
Superdrug invests significantly in Continuing Professional Development using monthly education courses. We also boast a huge focus on customer service to ensure that your clients receive a friendly and approachable service tailored to their needs. As an example, Keri Jones-MacDonald (the 2015 C&D Pharmacy Technician of the year) has an outstanding record of Continuing Professional Development, including 12 comprehensive pieces of work undertaken as a reaction to the needs of our patients, HIV Pharmacist Association training to support the HIV dispensing service at her pharmacy, and also a 10 week course on substance misuse to improve the service we offer to over 40 clients.

Medicines Use Reviews

Pharmacist consultation and healthy lifestyle advice
Our pharmacists conduct medicines use reviews with patients using a template tailored to their needs. The review addresses issues around repeat medications, 'over the counter' medicines, herbal medicines and recreational drugs. The review also covers medication compliance, and our pharmacists will support patients to adhere to their individual treatment regimen. There is also a strong focus on healthy lifestyle issues to encourage patients to make positive changes to their diet, exercise, alcohol consumption and smoking status.
The review template is updated according to feedback from service providers to ensure that all relevant information is captured and shared with patient consent.

Smoking cessation

Pharmacist led quit support
Our pharmacists are always available to support your clients with their quit attempt. Local services can often include one-to-one consultations with the pharmacist and a free supply of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). The use of NRT can increase the chances of a successful quit attempt by around 50 to 70%, and with motivation from our trained pharmacy staff we can support the patients as they make the best decision for their health.

'Morning after pill'

Emergency hormonal contraception
Most of our pharmacies are able to supply Emergency Hormonal Contraception (EHC) to your clients. In many cases, this service is free of charge (depending on local funding agreements).
Providing EHC from our pharmacies means that patients can easily and quickly access the service to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Our pharmacies also open on Saturdays, allowing for access to the service outside of clinic hours.

Oral health

Free chewing gum and mints containing Xylitol
By collaborating with Peppersmith, we will be able to supply your clients with chewing gum or mints containing Xylitol post-dose to help reduce plaque. This service is free of charge, and alongside our pharmacist advice will promote better oral health.

Needle exchange

Our celebrated service model
Using a step-by-step process, we aim to improve existing needle exchange services by undertaking expert training, providing enhanced paraphernalia at no additional cost, and delivering the service with excellent customer service as standard. Our expert pharmacists provide essential injecting information to the clients allowing for reduced harm and in turn reduced cost to the NHS. All good practice and interventions are documented as evidence of the high standards we seek to maintain.

This service model achieved runner up status for Clinical Service of the Year at the Chemist and Druggist Awards 2015. To view the service model and the documented interventions, you can use this link:

We want to save people's lives!!
Since the change in legislation in October 2015, we have looked to develop models of Naloxone supply from our community pharmacies. Our aim is to be able to supply this life saving drug from all of our pharmacies that provide substance misuse services.
