Why is there conflict in iraq?

  • The Iran-Iraq War lasted for 8 years and left Iraq's economy in shambles.
  • In 2006, the Sunnis bombed one of the holiest sites in Shiite Islam.

There's been continuous conflict in Iraq due to the Sunni religious group who has dominated the Shia (Shiite) minority under Sadam Hussein.

Sadam Hussein (former Iraqi president) was part of the Sunni majority. He tried to suppress the Shiite group, which sparked major controversy.
