WHEN DID THEY EXIST AND LIVE??

The Sumerians lived in Mesopotamia around 4000 BC. Mesopotamia or the Fertile Crescent. That was a region in the Middle East between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

CITYS AND STATES

It is generally accepted that the first cities in the world rose in Sumer and the most important were Eridu, Uruk, Ur, Larsa, Isin, Adab, Kullah, Lagash, Nippur, and Kish.The city of Uruk is held to be the first true city in the world. It has been noted again by Kramer that these names are not Sumerian but come from the Ubaid people.

GOVERMENTS

This religion belived in many god's. The air god, god of wisdom, gods of love, sun god, and the moon god. These gods are respondsable for the good things in life, as well as the bad things. The main goal was to please the gods. They did this by deviding the people by ranle and class. The king, then priest, after the crafts people, merchants, traders, then the farmers,labors, and were slaves.

Cuneiform is one of the earliest writing system known. The origins taced back to about 8,000 bc ago. It developed from pictorgraphs to other symbols. They were used to trade goods and livestocks on clay tables.

ACHIEVEMENTS

The sumerian were the first ever people to create wheeled vehicles. They also created a plow, which greatly increased. They developed a math system based on 60, dividing a circle into 360 degrees, and dividing a year into 12 months. They even biuld things like ziggurats ( large pyramiad shape ). They created writing as well. Last but not least thier greatest acheviement was the cylinder seals. It was used to label pessions and telling storys.

AGRICULTURE AND TRADE

They created levees to hold back flood that hit. They grew barley chickpeas, lentils, millet, wheat, turnips, dates, dates, onions, garlic, lettuce, leeks, and mustard. They raised cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs. Gilgamesh prefered to trade with far land for good suchas wood.
