GEOGRAPHY OF SUDAN

  • The name "" Sudan"" translates to the ""land of blacks"" in Arabic. It is taken from the Arabic bilād as sudān
  • Sudan was once the largest and most geographically diverse state in South Africa. It was split into two countries, now it is the the ninth largest country in Africa.
  • The Nile river runs from north to south of Sudan.
  • The Blue river runs through the northern part of Sudan

SUDAN'S CULTURE

  • Sudan culture name is "SUDANESE".
  • South Sudan is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse countries on the African continent.
  • This country has over sixty major ethnic groups.
  • Religion plays an important role in Sudan.
  • 7% of the population are Sunni Muslim, 25% follow traditional religious beliefs, and 5% are christians. It shares certain prophets traditions, and beliefs with Judaism and Christianity.

DEATH & AFTERLIFE

  • Death is thought of in Sudan as the will of God or another spirit and surrounded by the supernatural. ""The burial is a means of making peace with the supernatural to prevent anyone to be harmed by the spirit of the deceased.""
  • The burial happens after days of mourning and family, foods, and others from community have had the opportunity to come pay their respects and visit the family.

SUDAN ECONOMY

  • Sudans economy boomed on the back of increases in oil production, high on prices, and large inflows of foreign direct investment.
  • Sudan depends largely on imports of goods, services, and capital-mainly from Uganda, Kenya and Sudan

SUDAN GOVERNMENT

  • The government of Sudan operates under a presidential representative democratic republic. Under this system, the president is the head of state, head of government, and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The nation and its people are represented by a multi-party system, and public affairs are administered by 3 branches: executive, legislative, and the judicial

SUDAN SCHOOL SYSTEM

  • Education in Sudan is free and required by law for children aged 6 to 13 years.
  • The first program is offered for 3 years and aimed at preparing students for the higher education level.
  • It offers subjects such as biology, chemistry, and geography.
  • The second and final program prepares students to gain full employment after graduation, and offers 4- year courses like those offered by command, agriculture, technical and teacher-training schools.

SUDAN SAFETY

  • ""The U.S. department of state warns U.S. citizens not to travel to SUDAN. U.S. should avoid all travel to the Daruf region, Blue Nile, and southern Kordofan states and consider carefully before planning travel to other areas of Sudan due to the risks of terroism, armed conflict and violent crime.""

SUDAN NEGATIVES

  • South Sudan had been in civil war for the last five decade between Khartoum and Sudan people liberation movement/Army .Southerners were fighting against oppression, shortfalls of so many needs demanded for the improvement of their living standard. The main objectives they fought for, were basically equal right to health facilities, quality education, freedom of worship, abolition of slavery, equal distribution of national resources and equal right of taking part in national duties but consequently, the war was based in southern part of Sudan which ruined the normal way of living of the entire region of south Sudan distractively.
