Present active

  • the following helps when figuring out what is used for each conjugation

  • present active endings: m, s, t, mus, tis, nt
  • translation: may/might ______

Present Active-1st COnjugation

  • remove the -are from the infinitive to form the stem
  • add -e 
  • add active endings
  • ex. amem, ames, amet, amemus, ametis, ament

Present Active-2nd conjugation

  • remove the -ere from the infinitive to form the stem
  • add -ea and then active endings
  • ex. videam, videas, videat, videamus, videatis, videant

present active-3rd conjugation

  • remove the -ere from the infinitive to form the stem
  • add -e and then active endings
  • ex. scribem, scribes, scribet, scribemus, scribetis, scribent

Present active-3rd io and fourth conjugation

  • remove -ere for 3rd IO and -ire for fourth from the infinitive for the stem
  • add -ia and then active endings
  • ex. capiam, capias, capiat, capiamus, capiatis, capiant
  • ex. audiam, audias, audiat, audiamus, audiatis, audiant

present passive

  • formation of the stem and the add ons are the same as present active
  • add passive endings insted
  • passive endings: r, ris, tur, mur, mini, ntur
  • translation: may/might be _____ed
  • ex. amer, ameris, ametur, amemur, amemini, amentur

Imperfect active

  • for all conjugations, take the second principle part
  • add active endings
  • active endings: m, s, t, mus, tis, nt
  • translation: was/were ____ing
  • ex. amarem, amares, amaret, amaremus, amaretis, amarent

Perfect Active

  • for all conjugations, take the 3rd principle part
  • remove the -i from the 3rd principle part
  • add the following special endings: erim, eris, erit, erimus, eritis, erint
  • translation: have ____ed
  • ex. amaverim, amaveris, amaverit, amaverimus, amaveritis, amaverint

perfect passive

  • for all conjugations, take the fourth principle part
  • add the following special endings: sim, sis, sit, simus, sitis, sint
  • translation: have been ____ed
  • amatus sim, amatus sis, amatus sit, amati simus, amati sitis , amati sint 

Pluperfect active

  • for all conjugations, take the stem of the 3rd principle part
  • add -isse 
  • add active endings: m, s, t, mus, tis, nt
  • translation: had ___ed
  • amavissem, amavisses, amavisset, amavissemus, amavissetus, amavissent

Pluperfect passive

  • for all conjugations, take the fourth principle part  
  • pair it with esse+active endings
  • esse+active endings: essem, esses, esset, essemus...
  • translation: had been ____ed
  • amatus essem, amatus esses, amatus esset, amati essemus, amati essetis, ama

Present tense irregular

  • possum, posse: possim, possis, possimus, possitis, possint 
  • sum, esse: sim, sis, sit, simus, sitis, sint
  • volo, velle: velim, velis, velit, velimus, velitis, velint
  • nolo, nolle: nolim, nolis, nolit, nolimus, nolitis, nolint
  • malo, malle: malim, malis, malit, malimus, malitis, malint
