PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Himalayas are located mainly in Nepal, China, and India.
The himalayas were created from the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate colliding.
225 Million years ago, India was a large island off the coast of Australia, and separated from its position 200 million years ago. It drifted upward towards asia.
The indian plate collided with the Eurasian plate, thus creating mountains, which is a convergent plate interaction.
But How?
- The Himalayas lie right between the indian plate and the Eurasian plate, thus concluding that a convergent action occured there.
- We concluded that the Indian plate pushes up towards the Eurasian plate, due to our maps that model earthquakes and plate movements, therefore proving that the Himalayas were created through a convergent plate interaction within the Indian and. Eurasian plate.
My prediction is that in the future, Mount Everest (Located in the Himalayas) will grow bigger and taller, and the Indian plate will extend the large plateau north of the main Himalayas, due to the Indian plate continually moving.
The Hawaii island chain was created through hotspot activity.
A hotspot is a warmed area underneath the crust of the earth that is, in a way, a substitute for normal volcano forming phenomena. It does not need a plate boundary to occur, unlike how many volcanoes are formed within mountain ranges.
y = -1.5x + 1465
- Hotspots form volcanoes from the plate moving allowing space for a new volcano to be formed
- The Hawaiian islands are a linear site, being moved by the pacific plate allowing new volcanoes to form
- A new volcano forms when the plate moves in a linear fashion, like the plate Hawaii lies within
- They are formed from this phenomena from the plate moving along the hotspot
Research suggests that the Lo'ihi seamount, will soon form into an island, and possibly extend the size of Hawai'i.
-Is linear to island chain
-Is engaging in seismic activity
-Has erupted before
