HISTORY

  • Stonehenge was first studied by John Aubrey. Since that time ,thousands of scientists have studied the rock formations.Experts believe Stonehenge was formed in stages.
  • Made out of large sandstones, that weighed over 50,000 pounds .

THEORIES

  • Ancient folklore holds that Stonehenge was created by King Arthur ‘s wizard Merlin,out of massive stones from Ireland that had been assembled by giants .
  • Others believe the stones were erected thousands of years ago by invaders from Denmark.

THEORIES CONTINUED

  • Others believe the stones are ruins of an ancient Roman Temple.
  • Stonehenge might be a landing for an alien spacecraft.
  • Might be an ancient healing site since people at that time might have believed the stones were used for magical power. Since it has also been linked to a nearby wooden circle at Durrington Walls.

  • To alignment to certain stars,the sun,and the moon people think Stonehenge is a place to predict astronomical events.
  • Aligns with sun and moon so predicted to be used as part of rituals related to the changing seasons.

Opinion
I think Stonehenge was built to be a memorable place for the English people to respect and remember what happened long ago and part of their history. It might have been a place to pay respects and enjoy the spiritual values of long ago.
