Hunting :

  • Homo Erectus - Is when people started hunting
  • Cro-Magon - Followed herds of animals. They were Nomadic. Lived in caves or tents made of animal skin.
  • Disadvantages - Always on the move. No such home sweet home.
  • Advantages - Lots of food. Got to explore different places.

Gathering :

  • People couldn't possibly survive without both gathering and hunting.
  • People only gathered when certain berries were in season.
  • Advantages - Ate something other than meat and got vitamin C while doing it.
  • Disadvantages - Might choose the wrong berry to eat. (Poisonous)

A Giant Step :

  • Began 5000 years ago. Good soil, climate and water = farming. Giving to nature.
  • Step closer to development of civilization.
  • Advantages - Dependable food source = Settled in 1 place
  • Disadvantages - Dependence on farming = possible shortage of food if drought or flood occurred.

How did farming start ?

  • Spilled Grain - People gathered wild grain when they accidently spilt the grain, some crops would grow.
  • Watch The Animals - Animals found plants in areas with good soil and water. After observed it was done.
  • Moov'en and Groov'en - Group of people stayed in 1 place so long to watch a plant grow. After observed it was performed.

Development of Cities :

  • Farming brought people together in communities.
  • More food produced than needed = stopped farming. Developed other skills and moved closer forming villages.
  • Sometimes these villages grew into towns, and then cities.
  • After cities were made they met other cities through trading or warfare.

Ancient Cities :

  • Homes of royalty and officials
  • Some grew around a place of worship
  • Communities grew because people found they could make a living in the town by teaching, baking or doing another job.
  • Advantages - People got to share religion and culture through places of worship.
  • Disadvantages - Didn't want to follow commands instead of living freely.
