BIO
- Stephen Austin was born on November 3, 1793, in Austinville, Virginia.
- In 1821, Austin took over his father’s colonization of the Tejas region of Mexico.
- He was met with opposition from the newly independent Mexican government,
- but hoped to work things out within that system.
- When the Texas Revolution broke out,he was forced to support Texas’s independence.

HIS PATH TO TEXAS
- His party traveled the 300 miles (480 km) in three weeks to San Antonio
- with the intent of reauthorizing his father's grant, arriving on August 12.
