What Is Steely Hair Disease

  • A disorder that leads to copper deficiency 
  • Discovered by John Hans Menkes 
  • X-linked recessive dissorder

Cause

  • Copper is poorly distributed to cells in the body.
  • Causes many functional issues in small intenstines 
  • Loss of copper results in enzyme inability to function

Traits

  • usually begins at infancy
  • brittle hair
  • siezures and subnormal temperature are a few symptoms

Cure & Recognition

  • Urine ratio for screening
  • In vein and under the skin treatment is often offered
  • symptomatic support
