Syphilis is bacterial. It's easy to cure in its early stages. Pregnant woman should be tested regularly for syphilis because infection with syphilis can cause serious problems with the baby. You can get syphilis by direct contact with a syphilis sore during vaginal anal or oral sex. Sores can be found on the penis, vagina, anus in the rectum or on the lips and mouth.
Chlamydia is bacteria. It's easily curable but can make it difficult for women to get pregnant if left untreated. Chlamydia can infect both men and women. It can cause serious permanent damage to woman's reproductive system. Chlamydia is spread by having vaginal anal or oral sex with someone who has chlamydia.
Gonorrhea is bacterial. It can be cured with the right medication. Untreated gonorrhea can cause serious health problems in both men and women. It can cause infections in the genitals, rectum and throat. It is a very common infection for ages 15-24. It's transmitted by having vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who has gonorrhea. A pregnant woman can give her child gonorrhea.
PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE
PID is bacterial. It is an infection in the woman's reproductive organs. It's a complication often cause by some STD's like chlamydia and gonorrhea. You are likely to get PID If you have an STD and do not get treated, have more that one sex partner and are sexually active and are age 25 or younger.
Genital herpes is viral. It is common in the U.S. One out of every 6 people, age 14 to 49 have genital herpes. Fluids found in the herpes sore Cary the virus and contact with the fluids can cause an infection. Genital herpes can be transmitted by having vaginal, anal and oral sex.
