Leo is a boy who moved to Mica High four years ago, the same time Kevin Quinlan (best friend) arrived. They were friends from the start, and always have enjoyed each other's company. They're like any other two best friends, jokes, and laughter. Leo happens to be a bit more calm or relaxed compared to Kevin. Leo prefers to let things be, whereas Kevin is a bit more pushy about things, he isn't very great at letting things go.

Stargirl changes over time, at first she was only somewhat shy about talking to many people in groups, or "cliques." She later ends up being in a group of her own. It was either her, all alone, or her, with anyone or everyone else. She wasn't picky about friends, she was polite and caring.Stargirl shocks everyone, she has her own way of doing everything.
She does not run inside because of rain, she dances in it.

She does not sit at a boring plain desk, she puts a table cloth and a vase of flowers on it and makes herself at home.

She also does not dress like everyone, she doesn't "obey" the social norms, she dresses in ankle length pioneer like dresses and skirts, she sometimes wears overall shorts that bulge at the bottom. She sings to anyone at lunch. She sings them "Happy Birthday" out of all songs. She even plays her ukulele.

Kevin is the talk show host of "Hot Seat', a talk show created by Kevin and Leo. They convinced the school to let them present it to the high school. They interview tons of people in the school about hobbies, events etc. Kevin really wants Stargirl on "Hot Seat" because of how "interesting" or different she is among the others.

Leo Borlock immediately notices her. He notices the freckles that are dashed across her face, her sandy waving hair, and her behavior.
Leo thinks she has a nice personality, other than that, he finds her strange. Most people do not set themselves apart from everyone else at that school. They once acted as one. Stargirl came, and they began their new lives as individuals. She showed them what individuality was like, it was enjoyable. Everyone filled the sports stands at games, Stargirl cheered for both teams.

Everyone loved Stargirl. She was even nominated as Prom Queen. At prom night, everyone danced with Stargirl to the desert. They all eventually went home, as for Stargirl, she danced off into the desert and didn't come back.

"She was elusive. She was today. She was tomorrow. She was the faintest scent of a cactus flower; the flitting shadow of an elf owl. We did not know what to make of her. In our minds we tried to pin her to a corkboard like a butterfly, but the pin merely went through and away she flew."
This quote shows that in the beginning, people barely knew a thing about Stargirl.

"You'll know her more by your questions than by her answers. Keep looking at her long enough, one day you might see someone you know."
This quote shows that people are actually trying to talk to Stargirl instead of gossip or talk about her. Leo is taking an interest in her.

"Why fit in when you're born to stand out?"
This quote shows that other people are embracing their unique sides, and accepting Stargirl's.

Beginning quote- "Star people are rare." This quote is showing that people willing to be unique, are rare. And they shouldn't be "defined."
Middle Quote- "In that moonlit hour, I acquired the sense of otherness in things."
This quote shows that Leo had found a sense of things not being the same. Things being "other" instead of always the same. So it means that there are differences, or things that aren't same about everybody and everything.
Ending Quote- "We wagged our heads and agreed with the goofy girl."
This quote, showing that in the end, everyone began to accept how unique, is special.

Everything got better for everyone, Stargirl was accepted, the invisible were noticed, and everyone's lives were changed.

Stargirl was not made into a movie, but there is a sequel to this book; Love, Stargirl.
