Description

  • Starfish have tiny spots called eyespots on the tips of their rays.
  • Starfish move around and hold on to rocks and sand with their tube feet
  • A mama starfish is called a hen.

  • A baby starfish is called a chick.
  • These starfish begin life with 5 rays and add more as they grow.

Habitat

  • Some starfish live on the ocean floor and others live close to the surface.
  • The bat starfish lives along the Pacific ocean Alaska to Baja california.
  • One of the best place to see starfish is in a tide pool.

Food

  • Starfish are slow movers and the prey they want to eat are also slow movers.
  • Many starfish eat clams, oysters, and mussels. Some eat seaweed and also some eat coral.

Life Cycle

  • The female starfish when it is pregnant is white and looks like a jellyfish.
  • Female starfish produce hundreds or even millions, of eggs each year.
