A PLOT OR CHARACTER TYPE THAT IS REPEATED THROUGHOUT MEDIA.
Second: Literary Terms
Define any literary terms used.

THE STAR-CROSSED LOVERS FROM DISTRICT TEWELVE!

YOU'RE ALL THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.
Third: Connection to the Hunger Games
Provide a slide the briefly explains (perhaps with a quote from the text) the connection between your topic and the novel.

This slide contains a quotation from the novel as well as a visual reference to the near suicide, an allusion to Romeo and Juliet, at the end of the novel.

Katniss and Peeta are an example of the star-crossed lovers archetype.

THE TERM WAS COINED IN 1623 BY SHAKESPEARE.

Fourth: Background Research
Explain the background research your group found on your topic.

These next three slides discuss where the term Star-Crossed Lovers comes from as well as the meaning of the term.

Fifth: Provide Examples
If you are doing archetype, include examples of your archetype from other works as well as examples from the novel with quotes to back up your points.

If you are doing motif or dystopia, provide examples from the novel with quotes from either the novel or your research to back up your points.

The next slides name both ancient and modern examples of the archetype before again referencing the Hunger Games.

DOOMED LOVE

JUST SELLS!
Sixth: Question / Conclusion
Explain your question as well as what your group concluded on the topic.

Question: What does the use of the Star-Crossed Lovers archetype add to the novel?

Answer: Doomed love sells both to the fictional audience of Panem and to the real readers. The commodification of love is another aspect of the dystopian nightmare. Romantic love is a deeply personal experience but Peeta and Katniss must make that experience public in order to sell themselves to the Capitol. All their relationships (family, friends, loves) are in essence owned by the Capitol. The subjugated citizens of the Districts are so oppressed that they are not even free to love. By making their romance into a "showmance," Katniss and Peeta (but especially Katniss) must have a real-fake love and are not allowed the freedom to decide their feelings for themselves. Their inability to be honest and the doubt that comes along when they are being honest adds an extra layer of tragedy for the reader to enjoy too. Doomed love just sells!
