ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON

  • Was born in New york,1774
  • Was the first native born citizen of US to be canonized.

MARRIAGE

  • St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was married at age 19
  • Elizabeth was a mother of 5 children
  • Due to the amount of family members
  • The Seton family struggled with bankrupcy
  • Elizabeth sold all of her valuable possessions, to help her husbands health

WILLIAM:

  • William had a very stressful life,
  • He was diagnosed with tuberculosis only a few years after marriage
  • Due to his condition he passed away leaving Elizabeth
  • Responsible for 5 children on her own
  • It was beyond difficult for elizabeth but she never gave up.

1809:

  • St.Elizabeth took vows:
  • She vowed poverty
  • Chastity,and obediance among the church
  • She pronounced her vows before Bishop John Carrol of Baltimore.
  • Elizabeth was given land in Emmitsburg, Maryland

1811:

  • Mother Seton adopted the rules and constitution of St. Vincent Paul.
  • She recieved the sanction of the highest authority
  • Elizabeth became a religious order.

ELIZABETHS LAST WORDS

  • Elizabeth Ann Seton died of tuberculosis along with everyone in her family
  • From the minute she was diagnosed she began the prayers for the dying herself
  • Also to one of the sisters she prayed the Gloria and the Magnificant in French.
  • Elizabeth was an inspiration to many people
