PRESENTATION OUTLINE
St. Augustine was born on November 13, 354 A.D. in a city called Thagaste which is now in Algeria.
Augustine had mixed feelings about what to believe in with his pagan father Patricius, and his catholic mother Monica, which caused him to seek the truth.
Augustine went Carthage, Rome, and Milan to study and teach rhetoric.
In his younger years, Augustine was defiant which caused him to have a son without being married and believing in different religions like Manichaeism.
Later in life, Augustine was influenced by Bishop Ambrose in Milan. This caused him to become baptized. He returned to North Africa to a town called Hippo. He resided there to live a montasic life, giving up his career of ambition. After that he became the bishop of Hippo.
Augustine wrote many important writings including Confessions where he writes about his younger life and his conversion to the church, and City of God talking about his idea on the Sack of Rome.
St. Augustine died on August 28, 430 at the age of 75 during the Vandal Siege of Hippo. His last moments were in prayer. His feast day is on the same day.
Some virtues St. Augustine showed were love, faith, and hope to name a few.
St. Augustine showed love by loving even pagans who didn’t believe in the same religion he did. He showed faith in God when he switched his religion from Manichaean to Catholic. He showed hope during the sack of Rome when all seemed lost.
St. Augustine is a good role model because he listened to God through other people like how we can listen to God through other people.
