  • The British won a battle at Saratoga, the regulars lost at the battle of Camden, the patriots won the battle of kings mountain, the regulars won the battle of cowpens
  • The final battle at Eutaw Springs was the last major battle that the patriots won

BATTLE OF CAMDEN

  • the battle of Camden was a major defeat for the continental army. Nathaniel Greene was later called the southern arm of the continental army.
  • Patriot partisans were lead by Francis Marion, Thomas Sumter, Andrew Pickens, and lastly William Harden

BATTLE OF CHARLESTON

  • The first attempt by the British to capture Charleston had been thwarted by the ties and the resilience of the palmetto log fort that became known as fort Moultrie, and the British were successful the second time around

PARTISAN TROOPS

  • The initial concept of partisan warfare involved the use of troops raised from the local population in a war zone. Partisan troops also suffered from a server lack of food and medicine supplies

GUERRILLA WARFARE

  • Guerrilla warfare is a form of irregular warfare in which a small group of combatants such as paramilitary personal armed civilians or irregulars used military tactics including ambushes sabotage raiders petty warfare hit and run tactics and mobility to fight a larger and less mobile traditional military

  • Took place on October 7, 1780. It was a decisive victory in South Carolina for the patriots militia over the loyalists militia in the southern campaign of the American Revolution

  • Took place on January 17, 1781. It was a decisive victory by the continental army forces under Brigadier General Daniel Morgan in South Carolina over the British army led by Colonel Banastre Tarleton during the southern campaign of the American Revolutionary War

The initial phrase of the war in the south brought a string of American victories, drove British forces from the region, crowded American loyalists, and pacified the southern states
