•Pollutant levels have increased and show no signs of abatement
•Up to 70-80% of wetlands have been lost in most of the major river

•Was created in 1975
•The GBR can be seen form outer space.

•1625 species of fish, including 1400 coral reef species
•133 species or rays and sharks

Characteristics

•Approximately half the size of Texas
•The GBR is losing its coral at an alarming rate
