SPICE TRADE ROUTE

THE MAIN ROUTE:

WHO?
The trade was between India to the western world. The main continents involved were Asia and Europe.

WHAT?
The goods that were traded on these routes were spices, hence the name of the route. Cinnamon was considered the be as valuable as gold during the time, so it was a popular product that was traded. Other popular spices included clove, ginger, and cassia.

WHEN?
The Spice Trade Route took place around the 15th century.

WHY?
Spices were often used to make various dishes and meals. They were extremely in demand.

HOW?
Spices were usually imported and exported through ships. Alexandria, Damietta, Aden and Siraf were the major spice trade ports.

How it changed the world:
The exchange of spices allowed people to create different cultural foods which sparked the mixing of cultures.
