WOODLAND PEOPLE

  • Lived in villages/earthen mounds.
  • Grew crops such as: bottle gourds, squash,and corn.
  • Stayed close to home to tend their crops, and used pottery to store food.
  • They traded goods with tribes along the Ohio River and to the north and southern tribes of the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Hunters traveled in seasons to hunt for meat and used bows and arrows.

CATAWBA PEOPLE

  • Once the most powerful southeastern tribe
  • Called the people of the river
  • Lived in bark covered houses
  • Public gatherings in earthen temples
  • Survived by farming and fishing

YAMASEE PEOPLE

  • They were farmers and fierce warriors and fishermen
  • Houses covered in palmetto leaves
  • Lived near uplands and river bottoms
  • They hunted deer,bears,raccoons,etc.
  • They grew corn,peas,cherries,etc.

MISSISSIPPIAN PEOPLE

  • Often lived near rivers or other water sources due to farming.
  • Only used shelter during dangerous weather conditions spent most of their life outside
  • Lived most of their lives from only eating plants and other vegetation
  • Made houses constructed of wood,Mud and thatch
  • They spent most of their life outside

PALEO PEOPLE

  • Entered a new stage of development called Paleo period, durning these times the climate was cold.
  • They had an vantage of big stone spear point.Discovered the ancient spear points near Clovis.
  • Hunted white tail deer.
  • Toward the end of they're period they started growing crops,making pottery and trading.
  • They strengthened the clay with plant fibers
