South America is a continent located in the Western Hemisphere, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a small portion of land in the Northern Hemisphere.
It is bordered on the West by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and East by the Atlantic Ocean.
The geography of Western South America is dominated by the Andes mountains; in contrast of the eastern parts containing both high lands regions and large lowlands where rivers such as the Amazon, Parana, and Orinoco flow, mostly lying in the tropics.
The Caribbean Sea and North America lie to the North West. Including 12 sovereign states being Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
