“God has chosen to use the weak things of this world to put to shame the things which are mighty.”

To God the Father:
We are writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Gideon. In the time that we have known him, we have found him to be fearful, timid, and withdrawn. While he is good at threshing wheat, he shows no leadership skills and is unlikely to be of any assistance to our community in the future. It is with great reservation that we would even suggest him for any future opportunities you may have in mind.
Sincerely,
The Israelites
Dear Lord God:
I am writing this letter on behalf of David, son of Jesse. I do not recommend him for position as king of Israel. He is the youngest of eight sons. He has many brothers that are clearly better suited for this all-important role. He is, after all, just a shepherd boy, and while he has been faithful to look after the family’s flock, that does not mean he is ready to lead your people. Please consider one of Jesse’s other sons instead.
Sincerely,
Your Prophet Samuel
