PLANETS IN ORDER
- Mercury
- Venus
- Earth
- Mars
- Jupiter
- Saturn
- Uranus
- Neptune
MERCURY
- Mercurys eccentric orbit takes 47 million km.
- It is as much as 70 million km away from the sun.
- Mercury has a large metallic core.
- There are no known rings around Mercury.
- 1/3 the size of earth.
VENUS
- Earth and Venus are similar in size and structure.
- Venus is so hot it could melt lead.
- Venus landscape is mostly craters and volcanic holes.
- The tallest mount range on Venus rises up to 7 miles.
- Venus spins backwards compared to the other planets.
EARTH
- It's rotation 24 hours.
- It's revaltion is 365 days.
- Earth has lots of water body's.
- Has lots of land.
- Earth is 3rd from the sun.
MARS
- Mars is a cold desert world.
- There are no rings around Mars.
- Hard life conditions.
- Longer days on Mars.
- Has double moons.
JUPITER
- Has 67 moons.
- Gigantic storm has ranged for hundreds of years.
- Has 3 rings.
- Has the Great Red Spot.
- 5.2 AU from the sun than earth.
SATURN
- Has 13 moons.
- Has the largest tilt out of all planets.
- 1 day on Saturn is 17 hours.
URANUS
- Can't be seen from earth without telescope.
- Has 27 moons.
- Takes 17.9 hours to turn on its axis.
- Is 1782 million miles from the sun.
- 7th from the sun.
NEPTUNE
- It's diameter is 29,297 miles.
- Is 1 of our 4 gas giants.
- It takes 19 hours to spin a complete circle.
- Has 13 moons.
- It takes 165 earth days for Neptune to orbit the sun.
Model- a physical representation of an object.
Comet- an icy body that is part of our solar system.
Heliosphere- a bubble in space that is blown into the interstellar medium by the solar wind.
Galilean moons- The 4 moons of Jupiter discovered by Galilean In January 1610.
Asteroid- are a class of small solar system bodies in our solar system. They have also been called planetoids especially the larger ones.
Meteoroids- a sand to Boulder size piece debris in the solar system.
Meteor- the visible path of a meteoroid that has entered the Earth's atmosphere. They usually burn up to 40-70 miles above the earth.
Meteorite- an object originating in outer space that survives impact with Earth.
Solar system- consists of the sun and the astronomical objects gravitationally bound in orbit around it.
Kuiper Belt- is a region of the solar system beyond the planets extending from the orbit of Neptune approximately 50 AU from the sun. It is similar to the asteroid belt but Is much larger 20 times as wide and 20 to 200 time as massive.
Oort Cloud- a hypothesized cloud of comets which my lie roughly 50,000 AU from the sun.
Astronomical Unit (AU)- a unit of length equal to about (149,597,870.7 kl) or (92,955,807.3 mi.) or approximately the Earth/Sun distance apart.
Apollo 13- a space mission in which had an explosion on board and made the space craft circle around the moon. Later reassigned as the Apollo 14
Apollo 14- the purpose of the mission to explore Fra Mauro.
Mars mission- the purpose for this mission was to see if there was life in Mars.
