A FARMING PEOPLE

As you may know the Hmong are good at farming, making rice, beans, and potatoes. Well did you also know they live in huts and those huts are made close to their parents or grandparents hut. Also huts were often crowded.

The Hmong used the same method for growing crops for centuries.

Planting Rice

If you did not know, rice is the main food in Hmong culture, children would weed and clear the fields before they could poke holes in the soil to drop in seeds of rice.

Farming On The Mountainside

There is a lot of fields in Laos, where the Hmong would plant rice and beans to sell. They would also make woven baskets by hand.

Everyone Must Work

Did you know that Hmong men, women and children had to work in the fields and around there home, and all the work was done by hand.

Little Time For School

At times kids did get to go to school, because of all the work around there house or community. Also before the war, Hmong children attended school.

During the war the Hmong fled to the nearest jungle to prevent getting harmed or even killed.
