  • Roles of Women: wives, mothers, housekeepers, making clothes, tending to their "mate", keeping the fire going while the men were out doing their manly business
  • Roles of Men: Kings, rule-makers, farmers, fathers, warriors, builders

  • Family unities became more arranged
  • In Mesopotamia families were very important. The family was the basic unit of society

RACIAL & ETHNIC CONSTRUCTIONS

  • The Sumerians and Akkadians (including Assyrians & Babylonians) dominated Mesopotamia from the beginning of written history (3100 BC) to the fall of Babylon in 539 BC.

  • The order of hierarchy went: King, Priests, Scribes, Merchants & Artisans, Commoners, Slaves
  • There were 3 main classes: nobility, free citizens, and slaves.
