Snapchat have release an Instant messaging service - this deck unpicks what they have introduce and why it matters

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

So Snapchat have released an IM service

But why?

Well it’s snapchat, so it obviously disappears when you’re done

First off, what makes it different?

But what is cool is that it allows you to hold the screen to initiate a videochat

This is two way and only last a few moments

(Kind of like people's attention span)

Without complicating Things, they're the main things you need to know

Next … why?

Well, they wanted to put the chat in snapchat

because the back and forth has delays, IM allows for immediacy

It has the hallmarks of a feedback driven evolution

People like to give feedback and it is likely that Snapchat listened to frustrations/ideas

Though it will be interesting to see if it gets adopted

So, why does it matter?

Snapchat had a huge offer from Facebook

And I mean HUGE

they wanted to develop the company themselves

But what they had was limited

IM is likely to increase usage but also attract users

And with more users and meaningful engagement, there are greater valuations

There is still one question though…

How are they going to make money?

Well, this diversification brings possibilities

Snapchat WILL do something new and perhaps unexpected

That is user driven and creates a more social environment

The audience is appealing

Brands will try to crack this media

And this might be where Snapchat starts to charge – for engagement
