DESCRIPTION

  • Smoky gray fur with black spots
  • Light green to gray colored eyes
  • Longwhiskers
  • Huge furry paws
  • 75 to 120 pounds (34 to 54 kilograms)
  • 39 to 59 inches (99 to 130 cm)

HABITAT

  • Rugged mountains of Central Asia
  • Mountain altitude 18,000 feet above sea level
  • Cold and dry climate
  • Hunt along ridges and rocky cliffs
  • Rocky dens provide shelter for cubs

ADAPTATIONS PART 1

  • Their pelage, thick fur, helps them blend into their habitat
  • Enlarged nasal cavity (nose) warms cold air when the leopard breathes in
  • Well developed chest helps them get oxygen

ADAPTATIONS PART 2

  • Long hind limbs, short forelimbs with large paws, and a thick tail helps with balance on rocky ridges
