WHAT THEY NEED

ABIOTIC FACTORS

  • Water- sloths usually gets their water from plants that they eat
  • Shade- living in the treetops actually provides
  • Soil- sloths defecate right next to their tree on the soil every 8 days to fertilize their tree and stay close to their habitat

BIOTIC FACTORS

  • Insects, rodents- they sometimes eat small insects or rodents
  • Plant leaves- they love to chew on plant leaves especially Cecropia trees
  • Tree- a tree is their main source of food and shelter, they hang from tree branches and live in the treetop

WHAT TO AVOID

ABIOTIC FACTORS

  • The cold- Sloths can't shiver to produce heat in the cold, and when it gets too cold, they cannot digest their food
  • Power lines- sloths sometimes latch onto power lines and get electrocuted

BIOTIC FACTORS

  • Eagles, snakes, jaguars- these are main predators of sloths
  • Humans- sloths are becoming extinct due to human intervention
