Sleep is defined on the basis of behavioral and physiological criteria dividing it into two states: non rapid eye movement, muscle atonia and desynchronized EEG.

What is Circadian Rhythm?

Circadian rhythm is physical, mental and behavioral changes that follow a roughly 24-hour cycle.

What are the sleep stages?

Stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, stage 4, and REM

What is REM sleep?

Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is characterized by the rapid and random movement of the eyes.

What is insomnia?

A sleep disorder that is characterized by difficulty falling and/or staying asleep.

What is narcolepsy?

Narcolepsy is a chronic sleep disorder characterized by overwhelming daytime drowsiness and sudden attacks of sleep.

What is sleep apnea?

A potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts
