JOBS OF SLED DOGS

  • Pull sleds of food and supplies
  • Protect camps while mushers are sleeping
  • Mail dogs during the gold rush
  • Travel though snow with out stopping for miles.

  • Main sled dogs
  • Siberan,and Malamutesb
  • Have crystal blue or black eyes
  • Brown,black,gray,or white mainly
  • Made for cold weather

FACTS

  • Sled dogs have been in america for 15000 years.
  • There are always at least 4 differnt dogs in the pact.
  • Sled dogs can travel at 20 miles per hour
  • These dogs can travel 100 miles per day

POSITIONS

  • Lead dog
  • Point dogs directly behind lead dog
  • Swing dogs are next behind point dogs
  • Musher is in very back by the sled

HOW MANY DOGS PER TEAM?

  • Must be 4
  • 1 lead,2 point,and 1 swing dog
  • Usally for long races 15-16 dogs
  • Medium races usally have 8-9 dogs
