SLAVE LAWS

  • No testimony could be made by a slave against a white person
  • Not allowed to teach a slave to read or write
  • A slave must obey his or her master
  • They couldn't own property or be part of a contract
  • They could not defend themselves from their master

CONSEQUENCES FOR BEING A SLAVE FUGITIVE

  • Mostly likely being whipped harshly then sent back to work
  • Some slaves were hurt so badly they became crippled
  • They often were shot if they tried escaping

CONSEQUENCES FOR ADING SLAVE FUGITIVES

  • They were fined and put in jail.
  • Slave hunters could search their house at
