WHAT IS THE SKELETAL SYSTEM? WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • The skeletal system forms the physical foundation of the body.
  • It has many important functions throughout the body
  • It has 206 bones that form to create our skeleton
  • Muscles, soft tissues and organs attach themselves to our bones.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • It gives shape to our bodies
  • Protects various internal structures and organs
  • Serves as attachments for muscles and acts as levers to produce body movements
  • Helps produce both white and red blood cells
  • Stores most of the body's calcium supply as phosphorus, magnesium and sodium

WHAT MAKES OUR SKULL??

  • Human head contains 22 bones divided into 2 groups, cranium and the face
  • The cranium is formed by 8 bones and protects the brain
  • The face consists of 14 bones is in the front of the skull

THE NECK

  • Consists of 8 bones within 2 parts
  • Hyoid which supports our tongue and its muscles
  • Cervical vertebrae which is seven bones in a column down the neck

Our Chest bones

5 main bones make up our chest. The thorax, our ribs, scapula, sternum, and clavicle. Our chest protects our lungs, heart and Other internal organs.

Bones in our arms and hands
We have 6 major bones that make up our arms and hands. The arms are made up of the humerus, ulna and radius. The hands are made of our carpus, metacarpus, and phalanges.

Root Chakra
The Skeletal system is connected to our root chakra. The root chakra is balanced and grounded just like how skeletal system holds our body and grounds as beings. Without our skeletal system we cannot function.
