SIX SIMPLE MACHINES

LEVER

  • Lever: a simple machine that has a free
  • Moving beam or stick.
  • Examples: teeter totter and tweezers.

INCLINED PLANE

  • A sloping surface to make work moving
  • Up easier.
  • Examples: ramp, and hill

PULLEY

  • A rope that rides on the rim
  • Of the wheel that is grooved
  • Examples:sailboat and crane

WHEEL AND AXLE

  • Wheel attached to an axle
  • Examples: bikes and cars

WEDGE

  • Two inclined planes put together
  • To cut things in half or stop them
  • Example: doorstop and axe

SCREW

  • An inclined plane wrapped around
  • A cylinder
  • Examples: faucet, and jar lid.

COMPOUND MACHINES BIKE

  • A bike is a compound machine because it
  • Has a lever which is front where you turn,
  • Wheel and axle from the wheels that turn on the axle,
  • The screws to hold the wheels in and a pulley which is the chain and the
  • Peddle to move you weight.

COMPOUND MACHINE, SHOVEL

  • Your arm and shovel are the lever because
  • Your elbow is pivoting and your arm and shovel are
  • The lever arm. Also the shovel blade is a wedge because
  • It cuts into the dirt to get the dirt out.
