LEVER

  • A lever is a simple machine that rotates or pivots around a fixed point.
  • A broom is an example of a lever.
  • A see-saw and a shovel are also two examples of a lever.

PULLEY

  • A wheel with a rope or cable in the grooved edge of the wheel.
  • A flag pole would be one type of pulley.
  • A crane and the curtains at movie theater would also be examples of pulleys.

INCLINED PLANE

  • An inclined plane is a flat and angled surface or ramp.
  • A slide is an example of an inclined plane.
  • A ramp and a hill are also two other examples of inclined planes.

WEDGE

  • A wedge is a tool used to cut, slice, or pierce an object.
  • A sword is an example of a wedge.
  • Two other examples of a wedge are knives and forks.

SCREW

  • The screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a cone or cylinder.
  • One example of a screw would be a jar-lid.
  • Two other examples are the tuners on a guitar and nuts and bolts.

WHEEL AND AXLE

  • A wheel and axle is a wheel attached to a rod reducing the force to move an object.
  • A door knob is one example of a wheel and axle.
  • Two other examples are dishwasher dials and Ferris wheels.
