Wedge
A wedge is a simple machine that is made from 2 inclined planes. It is used to cut or split objects.

EXAMPLES

  • Knives are used to cut objects
  • Pickaxes cause it splits rock.
  • Klutz pierce the ground splitting dirt.

PULLEY

A PULLEY IS A GROVED WHEEL WITH ROPE ATTACHED TO IT.

EXAMPLES

  • Crate lifts are pulleys cause they carry objects by a lift
  • Flag poles when you pull down.
  • Window blinds uses a string to bring up the blinds.

SCREW

A INCLINED PLANE WRAPPED AROUND A CYLINDER.

EXAMPLES

  • Lids screw on tight to jars.
  • Door locks
  • Meat grinders .

LEVER

A BAR THAT ROTATES OR TURNS

EXAMPLES

  • Scissors are levers when you push down
  • See saws when you go up and down
  • A shovel lifting up

WHEEL AND AXLE

A ROD ATTACHED TO A WHEEL

EXAMPLES

  • A hamster wheel rotates
  • A steering wheel
  • Pattle wheel on a steam boat

INCLINED PLANE

A FLAT SUFACE PLACED DIAGONALLY

EXAMPLES

  • A ramp in a skate park
  • A staircase going up
  • A slide

COMPOUND MACHINES

MACHINES MADE OF 2 OR MORE SIMPLE MACHINES

EXAMPLES

  • Scissors are made out of 2 wedges and 2 levers
  • Wheel barrows are made of 2 levers and 2 wheel and axles
