SENTENCE STRUCTURES

Simple Sentence-
Consists of a single independent clause.

SIMPLE EXAMPLES

  • I like ice-cream.
  • We went to the store.
  • I like to read.

Compound Sentence-
Consists of two or more main or independent clauses.

COMPOUND EXAMPLES

  • I like ice-cream, so my father and I went to the store and got some.
  • She likes to read, but she cannot afford to buy a lot of books.
  • My dad and I love the circus, so we bought tickets to go to it.

Complex Sentence-
Consists of one main or independent clause and one or more subordinate clauses.

COMPLEX EXAMPLES

  • After we got home, we ate dinner.
  • Although she loved volleyball, she couldn't make it to practice.
  • Because she got hurt, she had to use crutches.
