WHAT IT WAS

  • The siege of Leningrad was a military blockade on the city of Leningrad
  • One of the longest and most destructive sieges in history
  • Over 1000000 people died and it was expected to fall like a leaf
  • It was one of the primary targets for the German operation Barbarossa

WHO IS INVOLVED

  • Undertaken mainly by German army group north against Leningrad

WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN

  • The siege started on September 8th 1941
  • The siege was lifted on January 27th 1944
  • This siege lasted a whopping 872 days

WHERE DID THIS HAPPEN

  • Leningrad is located in northwest Russia which is now present day saint Petersburg.

WHY DID THIS HAPPEN

  • The germans intended to tighten up the noose on Russia by taking one of their larger cities.
  • Although they knew they would lose if they just stormed the city so they besieged leningrad

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT

THE SIEGE OF LENINGRAD WAS ONE OF THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE SEIGES INHOSTORY AND IT KILLED MORE THAN ONE MILLION CIVILIONS
