1. Similie

Definition: Comparing two dissimilar objects using like or as.

Example: She was as fast as cheetah.

2. Personification

Definition: Giving human like traits to a non human object.

Example: The soccer ball smiled at me as it touched the back of the net.

3. Hyperbole

Definition: An exaggeration for the sake of emphasis. Often used in day to day language.

Example: "Ugh, that test took ages to finish!"

4. Alliteration

Definition: The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of words.

Example: Walter walked wearily while wondering where Wally was.

5. Onomatopoeia

Definition: A word imitating a sound of something creates a sound affect.

Example: Her feet hit the snowy ground, crunch, crunch, crunch, as she walked toward the door.

6. Metaphor

Definition: Renaming an object to describe its feelings, use, or other.

Example: Life is one long scary rollercoaster.

Definition: An expression, word, or phrase that has a hidden meaning- not to be taken literally.

Example: Back to the drawing board.

Definition: A phrase or expression that is over used and betrays a lack of original thought.

Example: Only time will tell.
