SHARK BAY, AUSTRALIA

WHAT IS IT?

  • Shark bay is a Shark Bay is a World Heritage Site in the Gascoyne region of
  • Western Australia.

WHERE IS IT?

  • Shark Bay lies on the extreme western coast of Australia between 24 and 27 degrees south
  • Of the equator.

WHO DISCOVERED IT

  • On a voyage of discovery, William Dampier arrived here on 17th August 1699 aboard the HMS Roebuck.
  • He anchored his ship between Dirk Hartog Island and Peron Peninsula and noticed the abundance
  • of sharks at this location. It was Dampier who named the area “Sharks Bay” and he also became
  • the first englishman to walk on Australian soil.

WHEN CREATED

  • He landed en route at Shark Bay on 25th October 1616.
  • Shark bay is 2,000-3,000 years old
