Shakespeare's story Hamlet was a play featuring eerie superstition acts, religious beliefs and a dominant social hierarchy.

The story of Hamlet

Hamlet was the prince of Denmark, with his father (king) dead before the play started.

Hamlet's uncle (Claudius) has then taken over as king and married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude.

The play begins with the guards seeing a ghost, asking where Hamlet was. Shocked but curious, they led the ghost to Hamlet.

The ghost meets Hamlet and exclaims that he was his father.

With the given news, Hamlet felt confused and crazy as no one could possibly believe him.

Claudius began noticing this and persuades Hamlet to forget about his deceased father. Hamlet agrees, but then retorts his disgust to his mother marriage to Claudius.

Afterwards, Hamlet met with his girlfriend ,Ophelia, the daughter of servicemen Polonius and sister of Laertes.

Polonius and Laertes were convincing Ophelia that Hamlet doesn't love her, as a prince marrying a middle class woman was impossible. Agreeing, Ophelia rejected Hamlet's love letters to her and began ignoring him.

The play focuses on a young prince who sees a ghost claiming to be an enraged king and his father. The ghost then influences Hamlet to murder the king who replaced him, who was Hamlet's uncle.

The tragedy story Hamlet took place in Denmark, where feudalism dictated in the city as well as in other nations (mainly) in Europe.

Hamlet's family belonged to royalty. As the royal family, they were valued more than anyone in the nation as they possess power over the army.

People who were below royalty were valued much less. Hamlet was in love with a noblewoman, Ophelia, and it was considered tainting. The royal family required rich, royal blood for the future of the nation.

This was common during the Elizabethan era, when the royal family or monarch 's responsibility is to marry another in royalty to create an alliance, as well as to keep the royal blood from being corrupt.

The most superior religious act in the play was when Hamlet decided not to kill his uncle, Claudius, as he was praying and confessing that he murdered the king.

In the Renaissance period certain actions are to be dismissed when praying to God or when in the house of God. When praying, it was illegal to kill or injure a person while praying, as Queen Elizabeth and nobled ensured people are safe and are excused when needed during their time with God.

The spirit who appeared in Hamlet was seen by three guards of Denmark. Horrified of the sudden supernatural power they were seeing, they fled to Hamlet.

Superstition was an increasing topic across the Elizabethan era, as witches were highly believed, and they have the ability to cause magical powers and/or hallucinations to cause damage to the world.

Hamlet was a play that was impacted greatly by superstition, religion and feudalism. As these advanced strongly during the Elizabethan period, they majorly leveraged Hamlet.
