WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

William Shakespeare was born April, 23rd, 1564 inStratford-upon-Avon,United Kingdom

William Shakespeare went to King's New School and became a great poet/play writer and created the play Romeo and Juliet

William Shakespeare died on April, 23, 1616 at the exact age of 52 in Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom

William Shakespeare was and still is known as the greatest dramatist of all time

BUBONIC PLAGUE

In the early 1330s an outbreak of the bubonic plague broke out in China. Since China was the busiest of the worlds trading nations the plague spread to Western Europe.

THE BUBONIC PLAGUE OR "BLACK DEATH"

KILLED A TOTAL OF 25 MILLION PEOPLE FROM 1347 TO 1352

This disease struck and killed people with terrible speed. In the winter the disease seemed to disappear because fleas weren't as active to spread it.

LIFE IN THE RENAISSANCE

The typical house during the Renaissance was a small one room hut and was cold and dark and probably stinky due to not having running water or bathrooms

Most people ate bread and stew, for that was all they could afford

Clothing was very important back then and they dressed formal with men wearing tight coats and women wearing long dresses

Nearly everyone was a Christian and went to church every day

During the renaissance for entertainment people would go to sporting events, festivals, play games and of course would go to the theatre

MARRIAGE CUSTOMS

OF 1300'S

In the 1300'S, marriage customs were different from what they are know like. . .

Girls were married at age of 12 to someone 17 years old

Parents arranged the marriages and they didn't really know each other and princes's married princess's

GLOBE THEATER

The Globe Theater was built between 1597-1598 by a carpenter named Peter Smith and some of his workers

The Globe Theater could hold a total of 3,000 people and theater was not just used to show plays but was also a brothel and gambling house

Famous Poet/Play writer William Shakespeare used this theater for his plays

THE LORD CHAMBERLAIN’S MEN

The Lord Chamberlain’s Men was a theatrical playing company that William Shakespeare was apart of most of his career

The company was very famous in Elizabeth and Jacobean London

Their only rivals were The Admiral’s Men and they had the best actor named Edward Alleyn

The company and theaters closed during the English civil war and only the theaters opened backed up 18years later
