History
Since the 1800s women have worked to win rights such as education and rights to property after marriage. Then in 1920 the 19th amendment was passed, granting suffrage to women.

"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any other state on account of sex"

Then in the 1960s the increase in women in the workplace new legislation was passed to protect equal rights and opportunities.

Congress passed the "equal pay act of 1963" which prohibits employers from discriminating against employees on the grounds of gender"

Even with all this women still struggle with equal rights in both the professional and personal world. And women STILL don't have equal pay

Discrimination against someone who is transgender is also a violation of title VII, under gender identity discrimination

This also applies to the LGBT community.

This law also outlaws harassment because of a persons sex.
