ANALYSIS: FAMILY
The Camden's family functions with well defined traditional gender roles, where Eric is the head of the family, providing for the family's needs. Annie is a stay-at-home mother and takes care of the children and the home. The family has strict rules about how the children should behave. Eric and Annie communicate with each other and negotiate how to disciple the children. The children respect their parents but,

FAMILY
are allowed to express their ideas and emotions openly to their parents and to other members of the family. My family was somewhat similar to the Camden's family. My father was also a minister and my mother stayed home and took care of the children and the home and I have five siblings. We were expected to obey our parents and be respectful to others. We were not allowed to talk to our parents the way the Camden children talk to their parents. My father was the disciplinarian and my mother was the nurturer.

ANALYSIS: FEMALE GENDER ROLES
The gender roles depicted in the show are the traditional stereotypical female roles. Annie cooks, cleans, and takes care of the children and her husband, she knows where everything is. In the episode Family Secrets she tells Eric where keys, wedding ring, the list of people that he needs to visit, and his new shoes are. She caters to her husband's needs . The teenage girls Mary and Lucy are concerned with relationships and boys. the girls impatiently wait for a boy's phone call, and dream of more independence. Ruthie is just a cute little girl. Another example of gender roles was presented when, while working at the hospital a nurse flirts with Eric. Eric has to explain that he is married, and not available. The nurse also offers to take care of Revered Camden's needs even though she is not a member of his family, by taking his shoes to the repair shop.

ANALYSIS: MALE GENDER ROLES
Reverend Camden works and provides for the family, he is also the disciplinarian. He is the one who talks to Matt after Matt spends the night out without letting his parents know. Eric also tries to fix the relationship between Renee and her father. Matt is depicted as a teenager concerned with school work and seeking some independence, such having driving privileges and going out. He also takes the role of protecting his older sister Mary and has an opinion about who Mary shouldn't date Matt also helps a friend, who is pregnant. The role of the male is to provide and protect. Even Simon protects the family's dog when the dog becomes pregnant.

CONCLUSION
Seventh Heaven presents the ideal traditional middle class family. They are a two parent family that loves and cares for each other. They help the community, and current social issues are presented, examined, and resolved in one episode. The family manages to help each other, the members of their church, and community.
