THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA - CHINA

  • The official length is 21,196.18 km
  • It is more than 2,300 years old
  • It was built in Spring and Autumn Period (770 - 476 BC) and it ended until the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
  • The purpose of it was to protect people

CHRIST THE REDEEMER STATUE - RIO DE JANEIRO

  • The construction took about 9 years, it began in 1922
  • It is the tallest religious statue in the world, reaching 40.44 meters high, including the foundation
  • It weighs around 635 tons
  • The purpose of the statue was to show that Christ loves all, and to spread peace

MACHU PICCHU - PERU

  • It is also known as "The Lost City of Incas"
  • It was built with a technique called “ashlar.” Stones are cut to fit together.
  • It's 7,970 feet above the sea
  • It was built in the 15th century, around 1450

CHICHEN ITZA - MEXICO

  • Chichen Itza also means "at the mouth of the well of the Itza".
  • The construction began during 750 and 900 A.D.
  • The temple has 365 steps, one for each day of the year.
  • People were allowed to climb the steps of the pyramid unit 2006. After an accidental death of a San Diego, woman from California, it was closed.

THE ROMAN COLOSSEUM - ROME

  • The Colosseum took 10 years to build, starting in 70 AD and was finished in 80 AD
  • The original was Flavian Amphitheater, after the Flavian Dynasty of Emperors.
  • Different events were held in the Colosseum including gladiator contests, mock battles, animal hunts, and dramas that were based on Classical mythology.
  • It is 180 feet high

TAJ MAHAL - AGRA, INDIA

  • It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his wife
  • The Taj Mahal took about 17 years to be built
  • It is 561 feet high
  • The Taj Mahal also means “crown of palaces”
  • Over 1,000 elephants were used to transport supplies and heavy materials for construction

PETRA - JORDAN

  • Most of Petra was made in 3 different periods- the Edomites (18th-2nd century BC), the Nabateans (2nd century BC- 106 BC) and the Romans from (106 – 395 BC)
  • Petra is a huge city of tombs, monuments and sacred structures carved into stone cliffs.
  • Johann Ludwig Burckhardt discovered Petra in 1812
  • Petra is also known as the "Lost City"
  • It is three hours away from Amman Jordan

THE APPLE HEAD DOLL - SASSAFRAS SPRINGS

  • The apple doll head saved Mrs. Pritchard
  • Mrs. Pritchard was very sick when she was younger
  • Mrs. Pritchard got the doll during Christmas
  • While Mrs. Pritchard was about to die, she heard the doll say "Little Mama, I'm thirsty! Little Mama I want something to drink!"
  • She got up as she was never sick, from there Mrs. Pritchard got better

HENRY UPTON'S BOOKCASE

  • Saved a man's life
  • It holds up Cully Pone's roof
  • When the bridge collapsed on the Garner River, Uppity's wagon and horse went straight down the churning waters
  • The bookcase landed upside down and the bookcase was floating, Henry Upton was in it
  • He saved Uppity

CALVIN SMILEY'S MUSICAL SAW

  • Drove off the grasshoppers
  • The grasshoppers were so loud that Calvin grabbed his saw and started playing
  • While he was playing the grasshoppers started to go away

EULIE ROWAN'S TABLE

  • Believed to be walking around the graveyard
  • Rose-Ivy went to the graveyard at night to look for the table
  • Rose-Ivy heard voices like "Mary! Why did you leave me, Mary?" Coming from the table
  • At the table it was really Tom with a knife, fork and a basket of food, table was near the tombstone of Mary
  • After Rose-Ivy invited Tom for dinner

COOGIE JACKSON AND THE FLYING OUTHOUSE

  • Pa was in the outhouse and he heard a train coming toward the outhouse when really it wasn't
  • While he was pondering about it the outhouse started shaking
  • He looked out the window to see that he was in the sky
  • The outhouse was twirling down a river and dropped straight down, hitting the ground
  • He stopped at Sassafras Springs

RAE ELLEN AND THE SHIP IN THE BOTTLE

  • Captain Graves and his crew were on a ship
  • A terrible storm hit the ship
  • The storm washed away two sailors overboard
  • The ship pitched over to its side and the next day the storm ended
  • The ship in the bottle floated onshore
  • Letters on the side saying "S.S. Phantom of the Sea"

MAYOR PEEVY AND THE PIECE OF CLOTH

  • There was a kid called Buddy who had done mean things
  • One time Buddy "pranked" Old Emma by switching the ropes so they would lead to the woods
  • Old Emma followed the ropes around, Old Emma got tangled in the bushes, she twisted her ankle and fell
  • Buddy wouldn't own up to what he had done but Old Emma found out
  • Old Emma found out by weaving a piece of cloth, on it was Buddy's name woven on the cloth

UNCLE ALF'S MAGICAL CARVED VILLAGE

  • The carvings were the wonders that happened
  • Laflame gave Uncle Alf a knife and wood
  • Alf carved an angel without knowing it
  • He never carved an angel again
  • Alf was at a party and met someone, they looked just like the carved angel
  • Alf carved Eben with a suitcase, leaving
