What we remember from media

"It was like the apocalypse"

Americans everywhere were in shock when our buildings were hit by planes. It seemed as if we were living in an apocalypse, as this article stated. Nearly 3000 people died that day, between the towers, flight 93, and pentagon.

As people states in its subtitle, the terrorist attack really shook up the American citizens. So many people died that day. New York City was covered in ash and debris. This triggered a war.

When this happened I was only 8 years old so I did not fully grasp what was happening. Because of this, what I take from the situation is from the media that has been produced to commemorate the event that changed the USA. This has been through articles, pictures, movies, and plays.

The President hears the news

While in a kindergarten classroom in Florida
The president was presenting a book to a kindergarten classroom when he was notified of the terrorist attack on the towers.

Sorrow surrounds all the memories of 9/11. So many people lost their loved ones it was incredibly devastating. Here's a picture of a soldier who found the name of a loved one at the memorial.

The first respondents in NYC are considered some of the biggest heroes in our country. Many men were lost in the collapse while climbing the stairs and saving people on the lower floors. Here is a fire fighter on the way to the scene.

Debri took over NYC

The media deeply influenced how the USA citizens looked at the incidents. Anyone who did not live in NYC were shown news casts of the firefighters pulling people from the rubble of the towers for a week after their fall. We saw the video of the second plane hitting the tower. Our only knowledge of the events were constructed solely by other people's views of the event.

Even though the towers were hit by planes, no one in the response teams expected the towers to fall. The response teams base was actually in the lobby of the second tower to fall. After the first tower fell they fully realized the gravity of the situation. This really hit America hard. The news respondents were able to capture photos like this one, and it heightened the public's anger toward the situation.

After the attacks, the Americans felt very defensive. This terrorist propelled us into war in Afghanistan, and later Iraq on suspicions of WMD capabilities. The war was supported at first because all of America was emotionally charged from the images that the media was sending us.

Shanksville, Pennsylvania

Not only NYC was affected. Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, now has a memorial as well. To this day, we recognize moments of silence for the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the anniversary. This acknowledgement is critical to Americans, and in a way still continued to support the efforts of our troops in the Middle East.
