What impact does attitude and self-perception have on reading achievement for students in Tier 3 Intervention?
"If you think you can catch the bus, you will run for it."- Lee Peng Yee
Students in long term reading intervention can develop a fixed mind-set and don't try to "catch the bus".
5th grade students are not reaching grade level proficiency quickly enough
Quantitative Data Research Findings:
For most students, as their reading scores improve, so does their self-perception.
Qualitative Data Trends:
Students in intensive interventions need more frequent feedback from teachers to ensure their self-perception is in alignment with their reading abilities.
More frequent opportunities for self-reflection (metacognition) so they can connect their effort and level of preparedness with lexile reading levels.
